Welcome to my new blog, Café Society – a written version of my salon…

No, not where you have your hair cut—a salon in the manner of Paris salons, where creative people get together to eat, drink, listen to music, and discuss important events. I’ve been hosting a group of friends each season, and the amazing conversations that have come from these get-togethers gave me an idea: What if my blog was more like a salon, reflecting my current interests (and hopefully yours)? A written salon, sharing tidbits about books, the writing process, and interesting oddments.

The idea came after a change in direction in my writing. I have paused work on my new narrative nonfiction book about Ernest Hemingway while I take in some feedback and prepare to revise. I haven’t given up on it, but I have set it aside temporarily while I think about fine tuning.

In the meantime, I picked up work on a novel I started years ago that takes place in Mallorca, Spain. It has been such a different process from writing fact-driven nonfiction, and so much fun to be free to make up stuff; it feels like letting go of the reins. I’ll also be writing about my journey with this new project as I pitch it to agents who specialize in thriller fiction and see where this new path may lead.

I hope you’ll enjoy my new Café Society blog with its salon-style mix of topics and the casual ambience of hanging out with friends at a Paris café…

Until next time,
Darla Signature
